Electrolysis was started by The Mexican in 2002 as a vinyl outlet for his trance and hard trance productions, although the label would later sign music by other artists. The debut Electrolysis release was The Mexican & Fluctuation 'Night Flight', which had received support from DJs such as Pulser and Dave Pearce but had remained unreleased since the closure of Ascendant Heights. The Mexican then became more focussed on hard trance and Electrolysis had a much harder music policy on all subsequent releases, the next two of which included The Mexican & Girdler Synthetic's 'Energize' and 'Mecha', The Mexican & Mike Synthetic 'Curse' and The Mexican 'Confusion'.

In late 2002, Electronica Exposed became aware of Finland's Carbon Based and received a monumental demo CD that massively influenced the music policy of the entire label collective from then on. All unsigned compositions on the CD were immediately signed to Electrolysis and Electronic, with E-nrg & Carbon Based 'Illuminate' and 'Jerk Awake' becoming the first of many Carbon Based vinyl releases in 2003. Then Electrolysis quickly released Exploit EQ 'Peace' and Carbon Based, E-nrg & Nemes 'Prologue' before the label took a break for just over 2 years primarily due to distribution issues.

In early 2006, Electronica Exposed decided to self-distribute Electrolysis and quickly fired out some banging hard trance releases such as Carbon Based & Rx 'Reptile', Carbon Based 'The Choice', Traced & The Mexican 'System Error' and Exploit EQ 'Peace (Cube Remix)'. Electrolysis then incorporated acid techno and hard house compositions into its releases, starting with Master Pain 'Dirty Filthy Writhing Techno', which lead to Toolbox Music becoming the label's distributor for the next two releases: Master Pain 'Cuddy Munts' and Traced & The Mexican v WMD 'Got To Go'.

Soon after, Electrolysis signed a P&D deal with Toolbox Music, but this was unfortunately shortlived as the final Electrolysis vinyl release, The Mexican & Girdler Synthetic 'Mecha (Marc Johnson Remix)', had manufacturing defects and was pulled from sale (so anyone who has a copy, shouldn't have one!). Unfortunately, the pressing plant refused to redo the release, and as the vinyl market collapsed, Toolbox Music were unable to continue distribution. Electronica Exposed also could not justify pressing any more Electrolysis vinyl releases and the label was closed in 2008. All unreleased compositions were released on the Electrolysis - The Complete Works Volume 2 compilation album on Electronica Exposed.

Over 6 years, Electrolysis released music from a number of highly regarded international artists and the artist roster includes The Mexican, Fluctuation, Girdler Synthetic, Mike Synthetic, E-nrg, Carbon Based, Exploit EQ, Nemes, Rx, Traced, Cube, Master Pain, WMD (Alex Calver), Marc Johnson, Jeff Sealey and Dan Dyson. Electrolysis was supported by a who's who of hard trance and hard house DJs including The Mexican, Proteus, Kevin Energy, Tom Harding, Guffy, Simon Eve, James Lawson, Ed Real, Olly Perris, Nik Denton, Louk, Marc Johnson, James Nardi and many more!

All Electrolysis releases were pressed as limited edition vinyl editions and are out of print. The entire Electrolysis catalogue was released on CD and digital download on Electronica Exposed on:

"For the first release, Electrolysis have really kicked things off nicely featuring a release by label boss Richard Andrews, aka The Mexican, and producer Fluctuation. They have both previously released either individually (with other producers) or collectively on labels like Nukleuz, Interflow Sounds and Ascendant Heights. The Original Mix of 'Night Flight' is extremely uplifting, with the main focus being the frantic bassline, morphed pianos and excellent riff, which when combined, works a treat over the quality percussion of this mix. All the way throughout, the production quality and overall arrangement is excellent. The Adelphoi Remix is even better, reminding me of a production by Airhead or some of Matt Darey's earlier stuff. This uptempo and yet much more driving reworking of 'Night Flight' really kicks the spot with some excellent synth arpeggios, extra synth work and awesome FX that definitely should go down well with many trance fans. Sounds mental to me. As you can see, I am really impressed with this track and the date April 15th should be one marked down to go and check out this track. Fantastic stuff."

Dicovered on generoproject.com, these guys make bullet-fast psy-hardhouse that rattles around the club like an angry wasp in a jam jar! 'Illuminate' is trippy as hell and had the world and his wife trainspotting it at my recent gigs in New Zealand. The only problem is that its fast - real fast! I've always got to minus pitch which for some reason just doesn't feel right!"

"Warning: the bpm counter goes off the scale on this release. It's one of those records so fast that when you drop the needle on the record you momentarily think you've got it on the wrong speed until you realise either the record is ridiculously fast... or you're getting old. E-nrg & Carbon Based are two producers from Finland, and their production style is very much at the extreme end of hard trance, with furious sounding filtered synths and 303s all working double time. 'Illuminate' is very much in the Alien Trax hard trance mould, while 'Jerk Awake' is more of a psychedelic, uplifting trance affair. Approach with caution. 3/5."

"Carbon Based & Rx 'Reptile'. A Lahti hometown heroes showdown as Carbon Based hook up with DJ Rx, one of Finland's most popular hard dance DJs. Rock-solid kick-drummed intro with the spiralling synths starting early. The Finns are experts at the use of a particular style of synth riffs; they use this arpeggiated synth noise that seems to skitter over the rhythm like a horde of digital spiders across a floor. They are also big fans of the traditional 303 / acid sound, which they use to particularly diseased effect in the intro here. That's no problem for me, because there is, for me, no noise like it. It draws out powerful, powerful emotions within me. After a couple bars of distorted breaks right at the start of the break, the main riff drops and it's a nicely filtered trance effort. Then, you know, a snare roll, massive massive build in intensity, then the drop into silence, a little rising acid line and BAM! Back into the beat. Textbook stuff, but always a beautiful and powerful thing. Carbon Based 'Real Stuff'. This is a slightly less frantic offering than usual, clocking in at a (relatively) restrained 160 bpm. After a functional and DJ friendly intro, they drop in a quirky little riff, a plip-plopping ghost of Eurodance past. Then they drop the main riff, which is a shimmery Eurotrance riff. This is quite a trancey tune, perhaps one of the most conventionally trancey that they've done. It's not as hard charging as most of their stuff, preferring to float along instead. As ever with their music, there are layers upon layers of sound within the track, lots of little details to idly pick out as it pumps from your headphones."

"Carbon Based 'The Choice'. Slowly revolving synth to open, then snap-crackle-pop percussive loop into twisty bass. Slower than a lot of their other stuff, but still pumping. As the kick comes in there's a nice juxtaposition of the icy fairground melody with some weird detuned stabs. Like most of the other Finnish stuff, it slowly builds in intensity as new layers are added, like a graffiti artist building a piece on a wall. Then into the breakdown, with its plaintive, one note echoey chord giving way, slowly slowly, to a sugary sweet riff that cuts in like Nordic sunshine over a crippled breakbeat. Then, instead of building and building in the traditional style into a massive snare roll, the track abruptly drops back into the kick with a sudden whomp. Keeping it simple for a while with a straight-forward acidy riff and no bassline and an odd sound seemingly dredged from the early 1990's rave scene. Then the tranceyness slowly filters back in as the track kicks itself back up again, layers twisting over each other, your ears navigating the maze of sound."

"Full power! Finland's Carbon Based deliver another intricate hard trance production that twists and turns like rapid. Fast-paced and tough as old boots, the psychedelic edge to this powerhouse creates a production that makes its own space. Nearly freeform in tempo, it's at the top end of the hard dance scale and is definitely something I can hear fellow Scandinavian Proteus supporting in his hell-raising sets. Solid and slightly different in vibe from anything else reviewed this month. 4/5."

"The Mexican 'Land of the Pharaohs (Carbon Based Remix)'. This track opens with some lovely melancholy pads. That's one thing the Finns seem particularly adept at within this style of music, evoking a complex range of emotions. Most English hard dance / hardcore is usually gogogogo mad-eyed joy, occassionally hoods-up darkside terror, but the Finns manage to draw something more complex from their machines, that weird intersection between joy and sadness, between ecstasy and fear. This track quickly kicks into a nice jagged riff, glittering from the rhythmic bed of the track like smashed car window glass on a sidewalk late at night. Then into the breakdown, where a fantastically incongruous Middle Eastern melody rubs up against some nicely sweeping synth vamps, which then cuts out into the main riff. It's a familiar arpeggiated trance riff, yet there's something about it that sets it out from so many of the other millions that I've heard. Although it seems to replicate the usual arms-aloft euphoria, there's this weird edge of dread to it; a clenched-teeth, eyes-shut kind of power."
