SOUND IT OUT (Jeanie Finlay, 2011)
Dogwoof (UK) | DOG257 | 1 x DVD | 13.12.2012 | Documentary
--. Defnoyz 'Dream Colours'
Cinema Versa Award Best Documentary - Leeds International Film Festival, 2011
"Sound It Out is a loving documentary portrait of the last remaining independent record store in Teeside, North East England. With over 500 independent record shops closing their doors in the last 5 years, director Jeanie Finlay wanted to capture the shop for posterity and as a gift for everyone, including herself, who used to shop there. Following a hugely successful theatrical run, Dogwoof is proud to release Sound It Out. Over the last 5 years an independent record shop has closed in the UK every 3 days. A cultural haven in one of the most deprived areas in the UK, Sound It Out documents a place that is thriving against the odds and the local community that keeps it alive. Sound It Out Records is run by the dryly philosophical Tom Butchart, whose wealth of knowledge helps his customers to find the song they’ve just heard in the pub or to track down that elusive rare vinyl they need to add to their collection. The film follows a number of the shop's long standing customers and takes us into their worlds of music, from the Makina boys and the devout Status Quo fan to the presenters of a dance music radio show run from a garden shed in Billingham. Sound It Out Records stocks all types of music from Abba to Zappa, and everything in-between (even the occasional classical piece too), however Tom comments: "I tend to sell a lot of hard music, but it's a hard area." Tom provides the kind of personal touch that you won't find on the high street and the shop also plays host to live performances from regional artists and bands. Directed by Jeanie Finlay who grew up 3 miles from the shop. A distinctive, funny and intimate film about men, the North and the irreplaceable role music plays in our lives. 'High Fidelity' with a Northern accent."
"Defnoyz is David Mueller, a happy hardcore, drum & bass, freeform and breaks DJ / producer from Karlsruhe in Germany. Well known for his tight production skills and supremely catchy melodies, Defnoyz has been making waves with his music since 2005 on labels such as Electronica Exposed, Whojamaflip and Can You Feel It Media. Of those, Electronica Exposed has released the majority of his creative output and the lush, uplifting 'Dream Colours' is the most recent example."

Neue Visionen (Germany) | DV96748 | 1 x DVD | 07.09.2012 | Documentary
--. Defnoyz 'Dream Colours'
Cinema Versa Award Best Documentary - Leeds International Film Festival, 2011

Every evening, she escapes from her reality by doing the only thing that makes her happy: emulating Lila Cassen at the karaoke bar where she works.
